I mentioned to my inlaws that my brother and I spent hours playing "parade" as children. They looked at me with a confused look as if to say "how odd". They don't realize that carnival is such a part of our culture that most LA children don't even realize until later in life that the rest of the country doesn't celebrate Mardi Gras. Why wouldn't people want to stuff their faces full of delicious king cake and watch a colorful fun-filled parade with friends and family?? Charlotte was too young last year to participate in Mardi Gras but this year we wanted to introduce it to her. Her first parade was my niece's kindergarden parade. This tradition has been going on for years as my brother and I rode in the parade when we were in kindergarden years ago. However, the floats have gotten much more elaborate than I remember. I sent Addison some photos and told him we have 4 years to start working on Charlotte's!
